NVIDIA Workshop: Building LLM Applications with Prompt Engineering
Instructor: Dr. John Hassell, NVIDIA DLI Certified Instructor and University Ambassador, OU Polytechnic Institute
When: November 11th, 2026 (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
Format: In-person (limited to 42 participants)
Where: Digital Scholarship Center, Edmon Low Library
Prerequisite: Comfortable with basic Python. No deep learning background is required.
Cost: Free
Description: Large language models can draft text, analyze documents, pull structured data out of unstructured sources, and power chatbots and research assistants. This hands-on workshop teaches the prompt engineering techniques that turn a general-purpose model into a dependable tool for your own work. Participants write Python against a Llama 3.1 model served through NVIDIA NIM, use LangChain to build multi-step workflows, and finish by building an LLM agent that calls external tools. Everyone works in a GPU-backed cloud lab, and participants who pass the final assessment earn an NVIDIA DLI certificate of competency.
What to bring: a laptop with a current web browser and a charger. Please create a free NVIDIA developer account before the workshop.
