OUTSIDE OSU NETWORK
If  off campus or otherwise not connected to the OSU network connect through:
  • tsgateway.okstate.edu (or)
  • connect to the OSU VPN.
To use the gateway “tsgateway.okstate.edu”
  • From the initial Remote Desktop Connection screen click “Show Options” → “Advanced” tab → “Settings” button
    • Tips for getting to remote desktop: 
      • Windows 7: Start  All Programs  Accessories  Remote Desktop Connection
        Windows 8/8.1: Start  Apps  Windows Accessories Remote Desktop Connection
        Windows (All versions): run command “mstsc”
  • Choose the “Use these RD Gateway server settings” option
  • Enter “tsgateway.okstate.edu”
To use the VPN option
  • Log into https://osuvpn.okstate.edu/ with your OKEY credentials
  • Install the Cisco AnyConnect client
  • Open AnyConnect client and connect to osuvpn.okstate.edu
  • Once logged into AnyConnect and VPN connection established access to the cloud available
LOGGING IN
To log into system:
  • Connect to the cloud VMs by using a Microsoft Remote Desktop client (Use the computer names provided in your Cloud setup email.)
  • Log in with your OKEY username and password.
  • If prompted the first time you log in to trust a script “\\storage.c\netlogon\login.cmd”. Choose the “yes” option as this is the login script for the cloud VMs. **NOTE**You should only see the warning the first time you log into a particular VM.
STARTING PROGRAMS
  • Click Start Menu
  • Click down arrow in lower left corner to get the programs list.
  • The following programs can be launched from the start menu at this time: 
  1. 7-zip
  2. Anaconda (python)
  3. ArcGIS
  4. Matlab
  5. Notepad++
  6. PuTTY
  7. PyScripter
  8. R
  9. RStudio
  10. SAS
  11. WinSCP
SAVING FILES
After the login script runs, several network drives will show connected within the VM.
 
  • The “H:” drive is your campus drive provided by IT.
  • The “K:” drive stores programs/files that don’t have to be installed locally on the cloud VMs.
  • The “L:” drive is your private storage area. This is where you should save your files by default.
  • The “M:” drive is a group storage area. This is where you will need to put files to be shared with other users. We can create folders here for each group/project that needs one.
               
**NOTE** Be sure to save all important files to either the L: drive or the M: drive. Do not save important files in the “Documents” folder, the Desktop, or anywhere else on the C: drive.
 
LOGGING OUT
It is important to log out when  done using a cloud VM so that it will be available for other users.
Closing the remote desktop window does not log users out.
 
To log out:
  • Click the start menu
  • Click your name
  • Choose "Sign out".
GET DATA INTO CLOUD
  • Remote Desktop Client (The simplest but also slowest method – only recommended for small files/datasets) 
  1. Before clicking “Connect” in remote desktop, click “Show Options”
  2. Click the “Local Resources” tab
  3. Click the “more” button and check the “Drives” option
  4. Click “OK”. Click “Connect”
  5. The drives from your computer will appear in the cloud VM.
